Following are 18 simple home remedies to get rid of dandruff using natural ingredients. The cures involving Apple cider vinegar, Bay leaf, Coconut oil, Snake gourd, Tea tree oil, Nettle, etc. are very effective in curing and permanently treat the problem of dandruff.

1. Wash With  Apple Cider Vinegar

Washing your hair with apple cider vinegar (or white vinegar) may be an effective way to treat dandruff as it acts like a fungicide on hair, removing fungus and flakes of skin.

Just mix vinegar with warm water in equal proportion in a cup and pour it on your hair. Massage it for several minutes and then rinse thoroughly with water.

Take normal shower  after 10 hours. Doing this treatment every week will help you.

You could do this treatment in the night before going to bed and then wash your hair in the next morning.

2. Horseradish

Horseradish (Sahijan) is known to be very effective against infections which can destroy bad bacteria that causes many of the illnesses in human body. It helps to treat dandruff in hair when mixed with vinegar.

Boil some horseradish leaves in water, then add some vinegar in it and use it as a shampoo.

3.Stinging Nettle  (Urtica dioica)

 Nettle looks like a mint plant, which stings if you touch it fresh. Nettles are plants known to strengthen, condition and restore the quality of hair. It can also be used to treat dandruff.

 Simmer some dried nettle leaves in water for 2 hours. Strain and pour water in a bottle and add some vinegar to it. Mix well and massage on the scalp 2-3 times a week.

4. Bay leaves are not just for cooking

Bay leaves are great for dandruff treatment as they are known to be regenerative to hair fibers.

Steep some bay leaves in water and use it as a hair rinse.

5. Wash With Baking Soda

Baking soda acts as a fungicide, so it can be useful in removing the fungus present on the scalp.  Its fine particles can remove the loose flakes stuck in your hair. Due to its mild exfoliates, it gets rid of the excess dead skin from the scalp.
Just mix well 1 tablespoon of baking soda in 1 cup of warm water. Wash your hair with this mixture in place of shampoo, daily if possible.

6. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is good for dandruff treatment.
Massage some coconut oil mixed with lemon juice into your scalp. Shampoo normally after about an hour. You could use a shampoo containing coconut oil.

7. Snake Gourd Juice

The snake gourd  (Padval) is beneficial in the prevention and treatment of dandruff and other hair problems due to its rich mineral and vitamin content, particularly its high level of carotenes.  It can reduce the frequency and intensity of dandruff.

Rub the snake gourd juice over the scalp.  and leave for about 30 minutes. Wash it off using a mild shampoo after 30 minutes. Repeat once a week for about about a month to get best results.

8. Australian Tea Tree Oil Spray

Tea tree oil has fungicidal properties which is good for itchy scalp and treating fungus on it. This oil is also useful in many beauty recipes and treating burns, cuts, bites, etc.

Take 1 cup of warm water in a spray bottle and add 1 tablespoon of 5% tea tree oil. Shake well. Use it as a hair spray after shampooing and massage the scalp.
You could also use a shampoo that has at least 5% tea tree oil.

9. Treat With Fenugreek Pack

The fenugreek (methi) has anti-fungal property which helps removing fungus from scalp and reduce dandruff and get rid of itching.

It is rich in protein, amino acids and lecithin, which keeps hair healthy and stronger.

Just soak 2 tablespoons of Fenugreek seeds in 1 cup of warm water overnight. Next morning drain the water and grind the seeds to a fine paste. Massage your scalp with this paste . Leave for half an hour and, then wash with water. Repeat this 2-3 times a week to completely get rid of dandruff.

You can grow your own fenugreek, even in a pot.

10. Treat Your Scalp With Neem Leaves

Make a thick paste by grinding neem leaves in a food processor and apply this paste to the scalp and leave for 10 minutes then wash off with water. Leaves of neem can also be boiled in water and the water can be used for washing hair. This method is equally effective in keeping dandruff at bay and getting a itch-free, flake-free scalp.

You can use neem in two ways:
1. Grind some neem leaves and make a thick paste and massage to the scalp. Leave for 10 minutes then Wash with water after 30 minutes.

2. Boil some neem leaves in water, drain and use the water for washing hair. You can use these leaves to make a paste as above and use.

If you don't get neem leaves, then buy a bottle of neem oil and add massage your scalp with some water with a few drops of neem oil added to it.

11. Mouth Wash For Hair Also

Due to its antiseptic properties, Listerine was in use as a cure for hair dandruff in 1930s. It can fight fungus, so it can help in getting rid of itching in scalp caused due to fungus and dandruff.

Mix 2 parts water with 1 part Listerine and water in 1:2 ratio in a cup and pour on your scalp. Massage your scalp and then wash with water after 30 minutes.

12. Try Aspirin

Aspirin has Salicylic Acid, which is fungicidal and is an active ingredient in many commercial anti-dandruff shampoos. It can help with the inflamed skin on the scalp besides fighting fungus, while the Aspirin.

Crush 2 Aspirin tablets to a fine powder and add to your normal amount of shampoo you use. Leave the mixture on your hair for 2 minutes, then wash well.

13. Lemons Advantage on Hair

Lemon juice is one of the most concentrated sources of natural citric acid, which can help kill fungus on scalp that is often the cause of dandruff outbreaks.
Just massage some lemon juice into your scalp and rinse with water. You could also rinse your hair with 1 cup water with 1 lemon squeezed in it. Repeat this daily until your dandruff disappears.
You could add some crushed garlic in lemon juice and massage the scalp.

 14. Aloe Vera Advantage

Aloe Vera can give you relief from dandruff itching as in many skin problems. It helps restore the scalp skin and soothe it.
Split open an Aloe Vera leaf, take out the pulp and massage on the scalp before shampooing.

15. Why Not Salt

The mild abrasive crystals in table salt (and Epsom salt) works as a natural scrubber, getting off the extra oil and dead skin flakes.
Massage some salt on your dry scalp for 3-4 minutes before shampooing.

16. Yogurt (Curd) Mask

Take some sour yogurt and leave it in the open for a day or two for fermentation. Apply it  your scalp and hair like a mask and leave it on for an hour. Rinse with a mild shampoo. It will help remove dandruff, and give your hair a shiny look.
You can also mix 2 teaspoons of black pepper in 1 cup of yogurt and apply on scalp. Then rinse with a shampoo after 1 hour.

17. Honey For Hair Also

Raw honey is a natural antiseptic that helps hair hold onto moisture while delivering a powerful infusion of vitamins, beta-carotene and several minerals.
Wet hair and massage diluted raw honey (90% honey - 10% water) into scalp for 3-4 minutes. Rinse with warm water after 2 hours. Repeat on alternate days for 15 days to get rid of dandruff.

18. Gram Flour Hair Pack

You can remove flakes and dandruff from the scalp by using a paste made of gram flour (Besan). Make a paste of 4 tablespoons of gram flour and yogurt. Massage it on the scalp. Wash the hair after 1 hour.
